Personal statement

Daisy Abeka
The media is the most powerful entity on earth. We are surrounded by media everywhere we go.  And as an aspiring Journalist, I too have become intrigued and have created a deep interest in writing and learning about what goes on in different parts of the world.
My strong passion for Journalism, was discovered from a young age when I started to take interest in writing my own articles, and pretending to be a news reporter reporting gathered news to my family. As well as reading news articles based on true life events that occur around the world.
As a media student I am well aware that to be in the media industry experience is a major key, and continuing my passion for media in university will broaden my skills for journalism more.
When selecting my course for Media, I seemed drawn to the practical based as well as the coursework based. The coursework aspect undoubtedly helped me to improve my writing skills, and enable me to be aware of my time management when deadlines were to be due. However, I was required to make an opening of a film in my media course, which was an experience I had done before in secondary school, but with more freedom to film. With locations outside college and in hours that were beneficial for me and my group. This task increased my interest in filming and television media. Until that moment I only had eyes for creative writing. Writing has always been one of my favourite aspects of English, and the coursework gave me the chance to write in whichever style I desired. One piece of work that I did was a discursive feature for a teen fashion magazine, allowing me to pick a topic that I felt will bring attention to my specific audience. In addition to this I could also write in a language suitable to my audience, this exercise broaden my different style of languages when writing.

I have chosen to do media as a BTEC extended diploma, as it equivalents to taking up two A levels I was drawn to this type of course rather than studying A levels on its own.
My main priority is media because this will aid me most in my ambition allowing me to fulfil my future career as a journalist.
I have often realised that nothing is impossible and everything can be achieved if you put in hard work, as a committed hard worker. I also have commitments outside my study life being the eldest in my house, I am expected to show maturity and show an exemplary example for my younger siblings. This is why I as a student am more than ever ready to take on challenges that are set before me, and prove to myself and everyone around me that I can be the best person that I can be.

However every teenager has an interest in something else other than their studies.  I love dancing and have been dancing from a young age, it all started when we had top dance teacher coming from the royal ballet school to my primary school for an audition, I straight away knew this was my opportunity to shine. Once the results came back unexpectedly I got offered to join the primary steps ballet scheme, my dancing journey started from there as I graduated I then got offered a dance scholarship at one of the top dance schools in London, Laban trinity conservatoire of music and dance. Ever since then I have been dancing, and aspiring to own my own dance school as a part time Job, alongside my mainstream career as a Journalist. Not only is dancing my passion, I Love reading books, my favourite author is Jacqueline Wilson, I could read Jacqueline book and finish it in just one day reading books takes me into another complete world. Once I’m given a book to read I will be committed to finishing it. My love for reading came along with my interest to writing my own stories, and I would get my younger sister to read it, as if it was an actual story book.
I am a dedicated and hard worker, ready to achieve excellent levels of professional conduct and I have no doubt that I possess the staying power and passion to succeed in my aspiration of becoming a highly Journalist.

Job Roles in the media sector

Below is the document of where i had to do a research on different Job roles in the media sector. my group had to pick two roles in the media sector and in depth explain if this role will be suitable for you. The routes and paths to obtain this role.
We also had to write our information in a format that if somebody new to the media industry was to read this, they will know exactly what qualifications they would need. And the best route to achieve that role.
